I have decided to make aromatherapy a part of my self-care routine this month. Using essential oils can provide various health and wellness benefits, and I’m looking forward to experiencing them.
Understanding The Benefits of Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy utilizes essential oils extracted from plants to promote balance and wellbeing. Inhaling essential oil molecules influences the limbic system, the emotional center of the brain, and can provide soothing effects. Using aromatherapy makes me feel more relaxed and uplifted.
The benefits I hope to experience from regularly using essential oils this month include:
- Reduced stress and anxiety. Lavender, bergamot, and clary sage oils can calm nervous tension. Diffusing these at night promotes deeper sleep as well.
- Elevated mood. Citrus oils like grapefruit, lemon, and orange have energizing scent molecules. I plan to inhale these from my hands or tissues to naturally boost my mood.
- Pain relief. Peppermint and eucalyptus oils have anti-inflammatory and cooling properties when applied topically. I can massage them into tight muscles or joints after working out.
Key Point: Aromatherapy can positively affect mood, stress levels, sleep quality, and pain relief through daily inhalation or topical use of pure essential oils.
Choosing My Essential Oils For The Month
With all the essential oil options out there, I want to choose a variety for my needs. My monthly aromatherapy routine will include:
Three Calming Oils for Nighttime
- Lavender: Helps ease stress and nerves before bed.
- Frankincense: Has a woody, spicy scent that sets a relaxing tone.
- Roman Chamomile: A mild, floral aroma that calms the mind.
Two Invigorating Oils for Daytime
- Grapefruit: A citrusy scent that energizes me in the morning.
- Rosemary: Herbal notes that keep me focused while working.
Two Soothing Oils for Aches
- Peppermint: Cools skin and relieves muscle tightness when massaged on.
- Marjoram: Offers pain-relieving qualities, especially good for stiff joints or headaches.
I specifically want to alternate these 7 oils to get a good variety of calming, uplifting, and therapeutic aromatherapy effects each day.
Developing My Monthly Aromatherapy Routine
To fully experience the wellness benefits of essential oils, I plan to incorporate them into my daily routine in a few ways:
Morning Uplifting Diffusion
Every morning, I will diffuse a stimulating essential oil like grapefruit or rosemary for 30 minutes while I eat breakfast and start my work day. This will set an energizing tone as I gear up for the day ahead.
Afternoon Stress Relief
When mid-afternoon stress or tiredness kicks in, I can apply a calming oil like lavender or frankincense onto my fingertips and inhale deeply to regain calm and focus. This will refresh my senses.
Pre-Bedtime Diffusion
As part of my wind-down routine before bed, I’ll diffuse lavender and roman chamomile to promote relaxation. Taking deep breaths of these floral scents will get my mind and body ready for quality sleep.
Targeted Body Massages
After workouts or on stiff, sore joints, I can massage in eucalyptus or marjoram oil mixed with a carrier oil to relieve muscle tightness and aches for rapid recovery.
By sticking to this aromatherapy routine each day this month, I’m excited to see the positive changes in my mood, stress levels, sleep quality and pain relief!
