What We Look For:

Design & Appearance

If you're going to spend money on a device that is displayed in your space where you see it all the time, it needs to look good. As much as we personally often prioritize function over form, it's important that the diffuser matches your taste.

As well, there are many design features that manufacturers include in their devices that make some superior to others. Little like having rubber feet to prevent slipping, or how the cord is attached, or how many pieces the diffuser consists of. They all add up to either a frustrating device to own or one that you wonder how you ever lived without it.

Operating Times

If you are buying a diffuser you're going to want to make sure you use it. A diffuser that only runs for an hour isn't the most ideal - unless that's what you want it for. Most models have two operation modes, continuous and interval, and so try to think about what you want from your device when choosing.

Capacity

The capacity of the diffuser is directly related to the operating times of the units, since it can only run as long as there is water and oils in the reservoir! If you're going to be using it often, consider a larger model. If it's only a few hours a day when you're doing yoga, or before bed, refilling a smaller model is no problem.

Coverage & Aroma

Arguably the most important thing to consider - what kind of coverage does the diffuser actually perform in? Does it fill a larger room say, 300sqft or larger? Or does it smell faint in even smaller rooms. While they do humidify, the purpose of a diffuser is to spread the therapeutic effects of essential oils so if it's not doing that, it's not doing what it should!

Noise Level

Depending on the manufacturer, these devices can vary quite a bit on the noise level. Some are certainly louder than others, producing an audible hum or bubbling. Most of the time you likely won't notice, but if you are using it in a quiet space it's definitely something to consider.

Warranty

And as always when you are making a purchase with your hard-earned money you want to ensure that a) it's a good quality device and 2) the company is confident in its build quality that it stands behind its products with a warranty. Many of the devices we review are fairly affordable, and there are Most diffusers are often quite affordable, but can be cheaply made. You want to make sure if something goes wrong, you're covered.

Alright, time to get to our review of the VicTsing 300ml Diffuser!

VicTsing 300ml Ultrasonic Diffuser Review

Design & Appearance

The VicSting diffuser is definitely one of the most eye-catching models that we've reviewed. It has a beautiful sleek shape that's reminiscent of a magic lantern with its swooping cover that builds to a tall spout.

When we ordered the device, we were hesitant about the faux-wood plastic, but as you can tell from the photos, it actually looks really good! And that's considering it's sitting on top of the wooden chest my grandfather made for me when I was little.

Design-wise, we love that it's got a simply two-piece design - just lift the lid and fill the reservoir. And, the large reservoir is a godsend for people like us that constantly use it.

But, one oversight by the manufacturers was making the walls of the reservoir too shallow. When the reservoir is filled with the 300ml, although it's well below the "fill to here" line, if you move the diffuser - even with the cover on - water can spill out the sides, since the cover sits loosely on top with no gasket or o-ring to seal it.

The ring around base of the unit where the cover sits is illuminated by LEDs - 7 different colours that you can either choose a single colour, or choose the mode that rotates through all 7. For our taste, the lights are little bright and abrasive for our personal taste, but it looks really cool in the dark, especially because it lights up the inside of the spout. You can always shut the light off, like we typically do.

Unfortunately, one of the features we look for - and one that would help with the shallow walls and spilling - is missing. The feet of the unit don't have any foam or rubber and are just plain old plastic. So it can slide around on your surface if it gets bumped. But, we love that the cord runs from under the unit between the space that the feet produce, so there's that!

Operating Times

Being a larger unit allows the VicTsing to provide many more options for operating times, the most of all the diffusers we have reviewed. The unit offers a 1hr, 3hr, 6hr interval setting or continuous (usually 6-8hrs of operation) mode. The shorter intervals are great if you're in a smaller space so the aroma doesn't overpower. But if you're looking to add humidity, just chuck it on continuous and call it a day!

Capacity

The reservoir capacity is really where the VicTsing reigns supreme. At 300ml it's far and away the largest diffuser on our top 7 list of 2019. It's so nice not to have to refill the device every few hours, which is why we love this unit so much.

Like we mentioned above, unfortunately the reservoir is a little shallow, so if you're not careful you can spill water if you bump it or try to move it. So if you cats, kids or some other critter, make sure it's not easily accessible or near anything that can't handle a little spill - just in case.

Coverage & Aroma

The way we looked at it, with such a large reservoir, the VicTsing better pack a punch in the aroma department! And thankfully, it does. With an impressive diffusion coverage of 350+sqft, this is a great option for larger rooms.

The mist erupts from the spout in an impressive stream (don't let the photos fool you) and fills the room with a strong, but not overpowering aroma of whatever essential oils you choose.

The best part of this diffuser is its large reservoir and coverage. It's great for larger spaces like offices, and provides some often well-needed humidification to indoor spaces.

Noise Level

Although it's a larger model with big internal components, we were surprised with how quiet it ran. It was a little louder than some of the other devices we've reviewed, but overall it's not very loud at all. Can't have it all, right?

Warranty

As far as warranty coverage goes, VicTsing's is pretty standard, like most others on the market it's got a 1 year warranty. We haven't had any issues with ours, but we've read some great stories of their customer service going above and beyond to resolve issues with devices so that's great to know.

Our Final Recommendation

Overall, we've been actually really happy with this purchase. Again, while we weren't expecting much from the plastic fake wood, it really did blow away our expectations and it looks good in all rooms of the house. The LEDs are a little bright for our taste, but that's a small detail that we overlook by just turning it off.

The large reservoir is where this device shines, because you rarely refill it, compared with most other diffusers. Again, a small detail that seems to be overlooked was the shallow walls of the reservoir making it prone to spillage but, overall we're happy with this purchase, making it our top choice on our Best of 2019 list.

Care & Maintenance

In our opinion, the best way to use your diffuser is to use filtered water, even if that's just run through a Brita filter or similar. We find bacteria or salts can build up on the inside, causing bad smells or just an ugly film to accumulate. However, most essential oils fight the bacteria well, if you're using oils in it and not just to humidify.

The best way to combat this is to run the diffuser with just a splash of vinegar for 5-10 minutes once a month or so. It will clean out the internal workings of the diffuser, and you can just wipe out the excess. Easy peasy.

More Essential Oil Diffusers to Consider

This VicTsing diffuser is a great option, but like we've mentioned, there are a couple more that we liked slightly more. If you think you may be interested in one of those, here's all our favorite diffusers to peruse through and see if there's another diffuser that might better meet your needs. Enjoy!
